Non-surgical treatment options

Many orthopedic conditions improve without surgery. Depending on your diagnosis, goals and overall health, treatment may include one or more of the following:

  • Physical therapy and structured exercise
  • Activity modification and bracing
  • Anti-inflammatory medications
  • Corticosteroid injections
  • Viscosupplementation ('visco') injections
  • Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections

The right approach depends on your specific condition. After a full evaluation, we review the options together and build a plan around your goals — surgery is considered only when non-operative care is unlikely to succeed.

PRP injections

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy may help certain tendon, ligament and joint conditions heal more effectively. Learn how PRP works, what it may be used for, and what to expect.

Self-pay pricing: $400 per PRP injection. PRP is not currently covered by insurance plans.

Visco injections

Viscosupplementation, commonly called a "visco" injection, uses hyaluronic acid to supplement the natural joint fluid in an arthritic knee. The goal is to improve lubrication and cushioning, which may reduce pain and stiffness for some patients with knee osteoarthritis.

Coverage depends on your insurance plan. Some plans cover viscosupplementation for knee arthritis, but most require pre-authorization before the injection can be scheduled. Our office can submit the pre-authorization request for you.

Most insurance plans require a trial of corticosteroid ("cortisone") injection and physical therapy before approving viscosupplementation. We review your symptoms, imaging and insurance requirements to determine whether this option fits your plan.

Rehabilitation protocols

Protocols are organized by area of the body and shared with patients and their physical therapists to keep recovery coordinated. Each protocol opens as a PDF.

Follow the protocol given to you at your visit — if anything differs from the document here, contact the office.
